Cryolipolysis is a nonsurgical treatment that uses cold temperatures to freeze and destroy fat cells permanently. This process directly affects fat cells by strategically targeting them without damaging the surrounding tissues. It destroys fat cells through natural thermal diffusion and the body’s inflammatory processes. (1) Providers use this technique on many areas of the body, allowing patients to remove fat without surgical intervention

About Cryolipolysis

Cryolipolysis, also known as fat freezing, is a non-invasive cosmetic procedure that targets and eliminates stubborn pockets of fat in specific areas of the body. This innovative treatment uses controlled cooling technology to freeze and destroy fat cells, resulting in a more sculpted and contoured appearance.

How Does It Work?

Adipocytes (fat cells) are more susceptible to freezing temperatures than the other internal structures that surround them. They are rich in lipids; substances that are much more susceptible to cold injury than the surrounding cells, which are rich in water instead. Because of its unique structure, fat freezes at a higher temperature than skin. This allows the procedure to target stubborn fat pockets without damaging other parts of the body. The controlled and localized cooling quickly targets subcutaneous adipocytes and freezes them. The body then absorbs these dead cells and the fat disappears through our natural inflammatory process. (1)

With cryolipolysis, patients can treat a plethora of areas including the flanks, abdomen, thighs, chin (submental), back, bra line, the underside of the buttocks, and the upper arms. (2) When the targeted fat starts to decay, the body naturally absorbs and rids the area of the dead cells. This leads to a slow but steady reduction of fat after the freezing process. It does not affect every single cell in the area, and results in around 20% of fat loss at the application site. The damaged subcutaneous fat does not return after freezing procedures, leaving patients with smoother and slimmer contours

Benefits of Freezing Fat

Freezing fat is safe and effective after just one treatment, but can also be repeated for more comprehensive results.

Other benefits of freezing fat include: (2)

  • No necessary incisions
  • Minimal to no downtime
  • No anesthesia or sedation
  • Treats multiple areas in one session
  • Permanent fat removal
  • Low risk, high reward

This treatment offers patients a great boost in self-esteem and body confidence. There is no optimal age range to qualify, and it can easily “spot correct” certain fat deposits to completely contour even the most vulnerable areas of the body. The procedure is quick and comfortable and most patients can go right back to their daily activities immediately afterward.

Ideal Candidates for Fat Freezing Treatments

Those who have small collections of fat around the abdomen, sides, arms, thighs, or even underneath the chin make great candidates for cryolipolysis treatments. You must be in good overall health without serious underlying medical conditions. Realistic expectations and cosmetic desires are a must for all potential candidates. You must also be at a stable and healthy weight with localized fat that is hard to get rid of. If you are not interested in liposuction, freezing fat is an excellent alternative treatment that tackles similar concerns.

It is very important to know that freezing fat is not a solution for weight loss. It targets and rids the body of fat, but is not intended for extensive or aggressive use to lose substantial weight. Those who are pregnant or breastfeeding are also not eligible for treatment.

Personal Consultation at New You

We will meet with you for a private consultation to assess your candidacy. After a thorough examination of the treatment area(s), we explain in detail the treatment steps and how you may benefit from them. It is imperative to be as candid as possible during this appointment. You will describe your cosmetic goals and why freezing fat is the right option. We will then schedule a treatment date that works best for all parties.

Preparation

There is little necessary preparation before a fat-freezing session. Make sure to care for your skin with your usual products and drink plenty of water to stay hydrated. Before your treatment, eat a balanced and nutritious snack. If you have any skin irritations, make sure to treat them before your procedure date. Please avoid anti-inflammatories like aspirin to combat bruising and refrain from smoking tobacco and nicotine products.

Freezing Fat Using Cryolipolysis

Your provider first marks the treatment area with a surgical pen to measure the fat deposit and plan their approach. They apply a special gel to protect the skin and keep you comfortable during the procedure. Then they use a handheld applicator to freeze the subcutaneous fat from the outside of the body. Your provider uses the applicator to suction the area into its hollow opening. They apply cold temperatures that average between 30 and 39℉. You may feel slight tingling or pressure before the skin starts to become numb from the applicator. It typically takes around thirty minutes to one hour to treat each area.

Recovery & Results

There is no recovery or downtime associated with fat freezing. Some patients experience mild effects like aching, tingling of the skin, redness, swelling, and slight bruising. Any adverse effects are temporary and dissipate very quickly. Apply heat with a warm water bottle or heating pad after treatment to alleviate these. Most patients go back to work and their regular activities directly after cryolipolysis, depending on the treatment area.

The cooling effect of fat freezing prompts the body to gradually destroy the fat cells over time. Therefore, the results of this treatment are not typically visible until around the second or third post-procedure month. Patients may notice small changes in the treated fat right away, but the final contour takes up to six months to come to fruition.

Corresponding & Complementary Procedures

Skin Tightening

Our talented and skilled providers recommend using intensely focused ultrasonic waves to produce new collagen and elastin fibers to tighten skin after fat removal. This is a non-surgical treatment that utilizes ultrasonic energy to prompt new collagen formation. We can perform this treatment after freezing fat to enhance your overall results and accentuate your new figure.

EMBodisculpt

For those looking to both remove fat and help build strong muscle, EMBodisculpt is a treatment that uses electromagnetic energy to contract the internal structures. This both burns fat cells and enhances muscle strength. By simulating the exact contractions that ensue during exercise, EMBodisculpt is a quick and painless procedure that creates lasting contour improvements. We can perform it to burn fat around the abdomen, buttocks, thighs, and arms depending on your needs.

How Much Does Freezing Fat Cost in Toronto?

The cost of this treatment is completely dependent on each individual’s cosmetic needs. If only one area requires treatment instead of multiple, then the price reflects that. Other factors that affect the total cost of cryolipolysis are the length of the procedure and potential additional treatments.

FAQ

Will I lose weight after a freezing fat procedure?

Freezing fat is a body contouring procedure that is not intended to assist patients in losing weight. It improves your silhouette and changes the shape of the body, but does not result in significant weight loss. To maintain results, implement a consistent diet and exercise routine. This may in itself lead to weight loss.

How many fat-freezing sessions will I need to achieve the best results?

The number of cryolipolysis treatments required varies between patients. You will converse with your provider about the right procedure plan for you.

Are there any side effects or risks associated with cryolipolysis?

Cryolipolysis is considered a safe and low-risk procedure. The most common side effects include redness, swelling, bruising, numbness, and temporary discomfort in the treated area. These side effects are typically mild and resolve on their own within a few days.

How long does each cryolipolysis session take?

The duration of each cryolipolysis session varies depending on the size and number of areas being treated. Typically, each treatment cycle lasts around 35-60 minutes.
