Get Major Results With Microneedling

One of the best parts of working in an aesthetic spa like New You is access to all beauty enhancing services. One that I have been particular excited to try is microneedling. Acne scarring has left my skin a little uneven in colour with some spots of hyperpigmentation. I have also experienced some mild ice pick scars and enlarged pores, so I was desperate to find a treatment that wasn’t too intense or invasive but was able to address my scars and pores, while also balancing my complexion. Microneedling is designed to do just that.

Dating back to ancient Egypt and China microneedling is a collagen induction treatment intended to naturally refine the texture, tone and appearance of skin using very fine needles. The microneedling of today uses a pen or gun which houses the very fine needles in a specialized tip that is applied all over the face, or target area.  Depending on the issue the treatment is addressing the needles will superficially puncture the skin at a depth decided on by the expert usually between 0.5 millimetres to 3 millimetres enabling the body’s natural healing response, which includes increased collagen and elastin the primary components to skin health and beauty.

An ideal treatment for scarring, hyperpigmentation, uneven texture and even fine lines and wrinkles microneedling is safe for all skin tones, types and textures making it a one size fits all beauty and antiaging treatment.

At New You Spas we recently welcomed Luanda, a Microneedling master who has worked across the globe with plastic surgeons and dermatologists specializing in complex skin issues. Over her career, Luanda has developed a unique technique that penetrates the skin at various depths for a customized treatment that is highly effective and long-lasting.

The Microneedling Treatment

After cleansing my face and allowing the numbing cream to sit for 30 minutes I was ready to begin my procedure.
Luanda then began applying Hyaluronic Acid to the area she was about to use the needle pen on;
the needles were then applied to the area. During the treatment she spoke with me about my comfort level,
and was constantly adjusting the pen to ensure she was achieving the accurate depth.

While I could definitely feel the treatment happening it was not uncomfortable or extremely painful.
Some areas were a little bit more sensitive than others but overall the treatment was virtually painless.
The treatment itself without the 30 minutes for the numbing cream lasted roughly 30-45 minutes.

The redness and blood is to be expected and is an indicator that your face is responding well to the treatment.
This part was painless around the eyes and mouth was a little bit sensitive but completely bearable.

Immediately after my skin felt a little sensitive but nothing that was unbearable. Luanda suggested I apply
1 % hydrocortisone, a very strong SPF during daylight hours, drink plenty of water and avoid anything with harsh
chemicals or ingredients. At home that night my face felt like I had a mild sunburn, I did not wash my skin instead
I just splashed cold water on it and applied lots of soothing cream and hydrocortisone as instructed.

Over the next few days, the sunburnt feeling completely left and my skin began to gently peel. I made sure to apply
lots of sunscreens, using Caregen Canada’s Dermaheal SPF 50 a brand exclusively carried by New You. Dermaheal’s
SPF protects against both UVA and UVB rays while also helping to even skin tone and texture.

It has now been a week and a few days and I am absolutely thrilled with my results. I have received a number of
compliments about how glowy and healthy my skin looks. I have noticed a difference in the size of the enlarged
pores that were my main concern. The color of my skin is more balanced and even and texture has also improved.

I plan to undergo at least one more treatment to minimize some of the larger pores and to achieve
the color balance that I want.

If you have concerns about hyperpigmentation, enlarged pores, fine lines and wrinkles,
uneven color or texture then microneedling is ideal for you. It is also a safe alternative to IPL
for broken capillaries, especially for pigmented skin.
